Fishtown Flower Power

Client

Fishtown Neighbors Association, Beautification Committee

In Spring 2019, the Beautification Committee of the Fishtown Neighbors Association (FNA) sought to revive a Fishtown neighborhood tradition: the annual summer window box competition. In order to include window box-less residents, the committee opted to rebrand as a “sidewalk garden competition” under the name Fishtown Flower Power.

Identity

The identity for Fishtown Flower Power started with the Philly row home. A summer color palette and funky, hand-drawn type added to a wabi-sabi row home planter helped create a memorable identity that would stand out in café flyer boards and FNA instagram feeds.

The Contest

Residents would be made aware of the contest mid Spring and have the opportunity to cultivate window boxes, planters and tree pits prior to contest registration in Summer. Gardeners received Flower Power branded tote bags and turf signs for their planters. On the final day neighbors came together for “Flower Crawl,” a walking tour of participating gardens and businesses.
