Tally®, Environmental Impact Tool

Client

KieranTimberlake Innovations

Tally is a Life Cycle Assessment tool for architects, engineers, and contractors developed by KieranTimberlake Innovations, a subsidiary of architecture firm KieranTimberlake. As part of an in-house development and marketing team, I helped build out the brand and website for Tally.

Know Your Impact

The term “embodied energy” is used to refer to the impacts related to manufacture, transportation, and construction and demolition of building materials and Tally is designed to help designers quantify those impacts during the design process, when choices can be made to positively affect the outcome. Know Your Impact was a line of copy created and designed to simplify the overall mission of Tally and activate the audience.

The colorful logo for Tally refers to the tool’s primary output of data. Understanding that Tally’s dense tables and charts could be overwhelming to a new user, I used our brand colors to create pared-down pie and bar charts to appear on the website adjacent a simple but valuable question that could be answered by the tool.

The website below began primarily as a Bootstrap landing page that attempted to simplify LCA and explain the function and value proposition of Tally. It later evolved to include white papers, training tutorials and more. The live version is choosetally.com.

Tally World

Considering embodied energy is a new and necessary line of inquiry for the AEC (Architecture, Engineering, and Contractors) community and part of marketing Tally included education and outreach. Tally World was created for an eblast and illustrates the total life cycle costs of building materials, including transportation and construction-related impacts.
